It’s now in its eighth year on the Australian market, but
Jaguar's X-Type still looks bang up to date. A tribute to the
stylists who managed to combine plenty of styling cues to Jaguars
in the heyday of the British marque, with lines to suit the early
years of the 21st century.
Now the Jaguar X-Type has received a makeover to keep buyer
interest keen as the car presumably approaches its twilight years.
Frontal styling sees an even sportier look, with a reshaping of
the front bumper to give it a squarer look. Note in particular the
strong vertical line through the lower air intake.
The mesh grille with chromed highlights give a positive, almost
aggressive, look that will appeal to many Euro-car buyers.
Interiors have been revamped, with new seat and trim designs
and there are now four options in colours. Complementing these
changes are new metallic highlights on the dashboard and
instrument panel.
Under the bonnet, the turbo-diesel engine is now mated to a
six-speed automatic transmission to improve both performance and
fuel efficiency.
Other than that the smallest Jag remains pretty much the same
as before. There's a big emphasis on luxury and comfort throughout
the cabin and those who like things traditional and British will
be impressed. Not only in the way the car looks and feels, but
also by the ride comfort and general on-road competence.
Importantly, the latest Jaguar X-Type continues the marque's
longtime tradition of selling for less than competitors from the
European mainland. Prices start at just $53,990 for the
four-cylinder models, and range up to a still reasonable $76,990
tag on the 3.0-litre V6 Luxury variant.
The complete 2008 Jaguar X-Type range, with prices (including
on-road costs) is:
