As GM-Holden builds towards its 60th anniversary in November, it
has been introducing a number of Anniversary models. The latest of
these is based on the topline version of its standard wheelbase
lineup – the Calais V.
Called,
without a great deal of imagination, the Holden VE Calais V 60th
Anniversary Special Edition, it features a number of expensive
extras at a very modest price. These include a powered sunroof,
19-inch alloy wheels (though the spare is a steel space-saver) and
chromed surrounds on the exterior door handles. The latter work
particularly well on a car that’s already big and bold in its
character and which can handle some extra bling on the bodywork.
Inside
you will find an attractive two-tone finish in Onyx and Light
urban. This is further set off by alloy pseudo-drilled pedals,
silver highlights melded in with the leather facings on the
steering wheel and special ‘60th Anniversary’ floor mats.
And
there's a ‘60th Anniversary’ badge on the bootlid to let
others know your new Holden is something out of the ordinary.
Calais
by Holden, even in standard format, offers astonishing value for
money. In this special edition, priced at $56,790 with a V6 engine
and $61,790 (plus on-road costs) it’s truly stunning in what it
provides in the way of comfort, spaciousness and performance. To
be perfectly honest, the V6 engine gives more than enough
performance for the typical driver and only the real revheads will
need the extra grunt and character provided by the big
Chevrolet-based V8.
