EDGY NEW COROLLA

By EWAN KENNEDY
7 September 2009

Toyota is offering its Corolla hatch with a sporty body kit for a limited time only. The Corolla Edge kit consists of a large rear spoiler and side skirts, while the 16-inch alloy wheels feature a blade design and 205/55 tyres. The body kit is complemented by front foglamps and rear mud guards. Inside there's a six-stack CD Audi system with LCD display, Bluetooth telephone and audio streaming capability, as well as carpet mats.

Toyota values the extra equipment on the special-edition Corolla Edge at more than $1800, but is charging just $750 over the list price of the Corolla Ascent on which it is based. It is available for a limited time only, with the choice of a six-speed manual, from $22,240, or a four-speed automatic transmission, from $24,240. Government and dealer charges have to be added to these prices.

Standard features include driver and front-passenger airbags, ABS brakes with brake assist and electronic brake force distribution, power front windows and air-conditioning.

Corolla Edge models are covered by Toyota Service Advantage, capped-price servicing of just $130 for each of the first six standard scheduled services over three years or 60,000km (whichever comes first).
