Would-be
Subaru WRX STI buyers have been asking for a sedan variant since
the day the current hatchback was launched in early 2008. Until
now, the local importer hasn't been able to assist – since no
such body existed.
Subaru has finally solved the problem by introducing, at the
recent New York Auto Show, the long demanded four-door. Though our
American cousins will have access to the new model virtually
immediately, it won't be here until, “much later in the year,”
according to Subaru Australia chief Nick Senior.
The stylists have done a neat job of the rear end of the new 2010
Subaru STI. Naturally, it's based on that of the standard WRX,
which means it's stubby in the current European fashion and
carries large lights that really do make it stand out on the road.
Note also the shape of the new design of rear bumper with its
emphasis on the diffuser and the semi-built-in quad exhausts.
The rear wing doesn't come from the shy-and-retiring school of
thought and its visual oomph will be welcomed by the typical buyer
of the hottest of all WRX models.
Prices and full specifications for the Australian versions of the
new Subaru WRX STI will be announced closer to the release date.
